I was thrilled to be asked to write a play for the Northern Opera Group. This is the first play I’ve ever written and it was a delight to flex my creative muscle in a whole new way.

Along with amateur sleuth, Cleo Curio, can the detective recover the book and save the library?

CONNECTING WITH YOUR READERS

I was thrilled to be asked to write an article in the 2023 edition of the Children’s Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook.

The Yearbook is an indispensable guide to writing for children of all ages from pre-school to young adults, and it contains inspirational articles from dozens of successful writers and illustrators on how to get your work published as well as a directory of over a thousand up-to-date listings with contacts from across the media and publishing industry.

My article Connecting with Your Readers is all about how writers can develop a strong connection with their readers.

Well folks, I did it! My sequel, The Unexpected Tale of the Bad Brothers, publishes 7th July 2022 and I am equal parts excited and nervous for this book to be out in the world. Writing this book was my first experience of writing to a deadline, while still managing a full-time job and a house/city move! Needless to say, publishing two books in approx. ten months has been quite the challenge. At times, I doubted whether I’d make it over the finish line, but here we are. Old characters return, but new ones arrive to settle their own scores. It is set in Paris, but going further afield to explore some of my most favourite places, from Parc des Buttes Chaumont to the leafy suburbs of Boulogne-Billancourt.

BASTIEN IN THE i’s BEST CHILDREN’S BOOKS FOR CHRISTMAS!

I was thrilled to see my book in the i’s round-up of the best children’s books for Christmas. I ran out to the newsagent to get a print copy, but you can also see the full list of Christmas recommendations on their site.

This actually shows the incorrect, old cover image for Bastien - we went with a darker book cover in the end - but it gives you an idea of the different faces a book goes through!)

WATERSTONES’ BEST PAPERBACK SELECTIONS 2021

The Unexpected Tale of Bastien Bonlivre has been featured in Waterstones’ Best Paperback Selections for 2021!

I’m in some excellent company, including October, October by Katya Balen and When the Sky Falls by Phil Earle, both two of my favourite reads this year!

But what does this all mean? Well apart from getting all excited and texting my mum about it, all paperback selections currently have 20% off.

So if you’re in need of a stocking filler for the book lover in your life, you know where to go!

THE FEEL OF FICTION

I wrote an article for writersandartists.co.uk about how you can find the right tone for your story to make your reader feel something.

WRITING ABOUT FOOD

I shared my inspiration for the food in Bastien as part of the Scrumptious Stories blog tour.

It was a pleasure to chat with Fiona Sharp, book blogger and bookseller extraordinaire at Waterstones Durham.

BASTIEN IS WATERSTONES CHILDREN’S BOOK OF THE MONTH!

I can’t quite believe that The Unexpected Tale of Bastien Bonlivre is Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month for September 2021. As a young girl who treated her trips to Romford Waterstones as an actual pilgrimage, I can’t quite believe that my book is now in the window, as well as all of the other incredible Waterstones across the UK.

I’m so grateful to Waterstones for giving my book the chance to shine.

Clare Povey on Her Favourite Children's Books Set in Paris

I wrote about my favourite children’s books (and one YA title) set in Paris for the Waterstones blog.

There are so many more incredible books that I could’ve included in this blog and I am planning to write a full-length blog on my site with more recommendations, so watch this space.

5 steps to getting your book published for the first time, according to an expert

In my day job, I work on writersandartists.co.uk, the online extension of the Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook. With my work hat on, I wrote an article for Stylist Magazine all about how you can publish your book.
